Easy methods to make rosin swabs
Patrick Bennett July 1, 2020
Dabbing enthusiasts everywhere, be happy! Rosin is here and makes some big waves in the extract community. This emerging solvent-free extraction technique enables everyone to conveniently make their own high quality hash oil from home.
The best thing about making rosin is that it can be made safely and inexpensively in just a few minutes using ordinary household tools. This method uses heat and pressure to squeeze the cannabinoid-rich resin out of your flowers, bubble hash, or kief. Your average hair straightener, some parchment paper, and a collection tool are all you need to make a hashish oil that can keep up with the hydrocarbon extraction methods in terms of taste, effectiveness, and effectiveness.
What is rosin made of?
Rosin can consist of cannabis flower, kief or hash. These starting materials can easily be converted to rosin wax.
From an aesthetic point of view, rosin can hardly be distinguished from splinters or juice. The difference between the two, however, is that rosin is completely free of the remaining solvents that are often left behind by hydrocarbon extraction processes (e.g. butane, propane, etc.). You can also make blobs at home in a few minutes without the dangers of using butane.
Rosin Swab Materials *
Learn how to make rosin wax with a DIY rosin press. First of all, you need to collect some materials. You may already have most of these items at home, but if not, you should be able to purchase them quickly and cheaply.
Hair straightener (try to find one with a low setting of around 300° F. or lower– –evaporate higher and valuable terpenes)
Source material (this can be cannabis flowers, bubble hash or kief)
Parchment paper (if possible unbleached)
Collection tool (many swab tools work well here, although you can get creative!)
Heat resistant gloves for safety
* Homemade safety tip for rosin presses: Please be careful when handling the straightener and use heat-resistant gloves as an additional safety measure– –We don't want you to burn yourself!
How to make rosin
Switch your hair straightener to the lowest setting (280-330)° F.)
Cut a small piece of parchment paper
Fold the parchment paper in half
Place your material between the folded parchment paper
Press lightly on the folded parchment paper with your fingers
Carefully line out the buds inside the paper with your hair straightener and apply very firm pressure for about 3-7 seconds. You should hear a hiss before releasing the pressure – this indicates that the resin has melted from the plant material.
Take your sample from the hot surface
Unfold the parchment paper
Pluck away the flattened nug and grab your collecting tool. It is a very difficult process. So be patient and careful. Use different clean parchment sheets for larger batches and collect your samples at the end.
Remove visible plant material if you wish
Fold the finished product between the parchment and flatten it to your liking
Use a clean tool to remove all plant particles. You can put the substance on a cold surface for a few seconds if you want a more stable material to work with.
Who would have thought that you would make blobs with your own homemade rosin press? Load up a nice fat swab of your fresh new rosin and celebrate – you've just become an extract artist who knows how to make swabs!
