This close cousin of standard THC is legal in most states – and it’s gentler on you.

Cannabis is a more complex plant than most believe, including its main psychoactive compound, THC. What we usually think of as THC, which has been the main cannabis ban target for decades, is delta-9 THC. But many people have replaced it with its close cousin, Delta-8-THC, and many report that they have similar therapeutic properties, as well as some mild psychoactive effects. Like Delta-9-THC, it’s a naturally occurring cannabinoid – but unlike Delta-9-THC, it can be bought anywhere hemp products can be bought.

“Delta-8-THC is responsible for improving the lives of countless people looking for a natural, side-effect-free solution to real health problems,” said Justin Journay, CEO of 3Chi, which sells carefully made baked goods, gums and gums tinctures online. “Since this is legal nationwide, those who cannot qualify or afford medically sanctioned Delta-9-THC can use Delta-8-THC products to get relief.”

Delta-8-THC is great for THC users who want better and cheaper access, as well as CBD users who want a more powerful product. Here’s what you need to know.

What is Delta-8-THC?

Delta-8-THC is a chemical compound that is very, very close to Delta-9-THC – but with a few differences. It is reportedly still used by many who experience pain, nausea, and anxiety. It occurs naturally in cannabis. The two molecules even look almost identical. However, your body processes delta-8 THC in a different way.

Whether you are a cannabis user or not, you have an endocannabinoid system that allows signals to be sent to different parts of the body through certain types of receptors. Chemically, Delta-8-THC and Delta-9-THC are similar in that they both have a double bond in their structures. It is this double bond that is believed to create the intoxicating effect that makes you feel high when interacting with your endocannabinoid system.

However, the two THCs differ in the placement of their double bond – they fall on the eighth carbon atom in their chain for delta-8-THC and on the ninth for delta-9-THC. It is this difference that affects how Delta-8 binds differently to the endocannabinoid system, and it is believed to be responsible for the much less potent high produced by consuming Delta-8 versus Delta-9.

New research confirms its therapeutic potential: A 2018 study published in Clinical Pharmacology & Therapeutics even called a synthetic version of Delta-8-THC a “powerful anti-inflammatory agent” with effects similar to prednisone.

The short answer is: Delta-8-THC is legal for the same reasons you’ve seen CBD products explode in recent years: The 2018 farm bill eventually enabled industrial hemp production in the U.S. Hemp-derived products are legal at the federal level as long as they contain no more than trace amounts of Delta-9-THC, although some states are still including Delta-8-THC in their anti-cannabis laws.

While it is only found in trace amounts in cannabis, delta-8-THC can be derived from other cannabinoids through some basic chemical reactions. 3Chi produces its Delta-8-THC in a laboratory. You may have already done some cannabinoid chemicals at home: for example, some cannabinoids transform into others when you smoke.

How does Delta-8-THC feel?

While delta-8-THC has effects similar to delta-9-THC, it is said to practically eliminate unpleasant side effects like paranoia.

“Its effects are a perfect blend of CBD and Delta-9-THC, which gives it a similar buzz and all of the medicinal effects of Delta 9-THC without laziness, fear, paranoia or mental fog,” explains Journay.

The experiences will vary from person to person, but for the most part, it’s like a lighter version of Delta-9-THC. It still has psychoactive effects, but they’re milder – so you won’t find yourself trapped in a couch or crisis.

“Delta-8-THC users report feeling much more active and sociable, with more self-confidence and almost none of the anxiety and paranoia associated with using Delta-9-THC,” says Journay.

Where to buy Delta-8-THC

Delta-8-THC is available from many retailers, but 3Chi also has some great products online.

Baked Food: 3Chi stocks some of the most classic cannabis baked goods like cookies, brownies, and granola goodies, all of which are freshly baked in the bakery. Their chocolate chip cookies are even vegan.

Gummies: For a more convenient consumption, 3Chis vegan gummies are available with both Delta-8-THC and a cozy combination of Delta-8-THC and CBN, another small cannabinoid with a therapeutic effect.

Tinctures: Broad spectrum products contain a variety of smaller cannabinoids for a more effective, well-rounded product. In addition to Delta-8-THC, 3Chi tinctures contain a variety of cannabinoids and terpenes. This gives it both full plant power and a more traditional cannabis flavor.
