One of the most interesting developments in the cannabis industry is fast-acting foods designed to bypass the dreaded waiting time. Known as “fast delivery”, these foods are developed by companies that claim you will feel their effects within 15 to 20 minutes.

In a 2017 interview with Forbes, cannabis company founder Peter Barsoom stated in 1906 that his company began making edibles with fast delivery by thinking of people who had less than six hours to wait for their edible met. This new formula enables foods to “bypass the stomach and get to the small intestine faster” through a process known as proprietary lipid microencapsulation.

One trick savvy consumers can try to mimic this loophole is to buy an edible product that melts – like chocolate or mint – and put it under your tongue. Rather than waiting for the edible to go down the digestive tract, this sublingual method allows the THC to be quickly absorbed into the bloodstream, much like a tincture or oil, which are among the fastest ways to absorb THC.

Another thing that can change the speed at which foods are digested is the speed of your metabolism. While an increase in this rate cannot be achieved in a short period of time, in the long run you can work on your metabolism by consuming protein, drinking water, exercising, and getting plenty of sleep, which also leads to a healthier lifestyle.
