How to Safely Pass your Drug Test While Using Delta-8 THC

One of the most common questions for first-time users of Delta-8 THC is “Can I pass a drug test?” The short answer is … probably not. But before you completely disregard Delta-8 THC products, let’s take a look at how Delta-8 THC is processed in your body.

How your body processes Delta-8 THC

Once you consume Delta-8 THC, the fat cells in your body absorb the compounds. Since Delta-8 THC is fat-soluble along with every other cannabinoid, your body stores them as normal water-soluble compounds. Even after trying a small amount of Delta-8 THC, your body will retain the THC compound and secrete THC metabolites for several days. This effect is amplified if you regularly consume Delta 8 THC products, allowing your body to retain the THC compounds for weeks or even months! Your body’s metabolism, hormones, weight, and gender all play a big role in how long the THC metabolites stay in your system. Drug tests only test for the presence of THC metabolites, not which THC has been processed. You are at high risk of failing your drug test if you consumed a Delta-8-THC product a few days before your drug test.

Understand your drug test

Obviously, the best way to pass your drug test (urine or follicle) is to avoid consuming Delta-8-THC products. If you know your employer is doing random drug tests, you will likely need to do a test while the THC metabolites are still in your system. But what if you are dependent on Delta-8 THC for medical and homeopathic reasons? This is where it gets difficult. Many employers have zero tolerance policies when it comes to drugs, especially marijuana. While it may be tempting to explain to your employer why THC metabolites may be present in your system, most employers don’t understand or care why you failed your drug test, only that you did. And since changing careers isn’t an option for most people, it may be best to hang out with your food until Delta-8 THC is better understood.

Ways to Prepare for Your Upcoming Drug Test

When you know you need to take a drug test for work reasons, there are a few things you can do. Since THC metabolites can remain in your system for up to three months, you should avoid all Delta-8-THC products during this time.

Buy OTC drug tests

If you’re nervous about passing your drug test, you can always purchase an over-the-counter testing kit to check at home. This way you can determine in advance whether the THC metabolites are still in your system.

Change your lifestyle and diet

When you are active, you can remove the metabolites from your system. Consider increasing your water intake by several gallons. Include dark leafy vegetables in your diet to replace the nutrients washed out by the increased water. Add multivitamins to your diet, especially those that contain zinc and iron. Add cardio and exercise to your lifestyle to reduce the fat cells that store cannabis in your system. Foods high in selenium, such as chicken, pork, beef, turkey, eggs, shellfish, Brazil nuts, and some beans, can speed up your body’s metabolism and help you burn fat faster.

Instead, consider using broad spectrum CBD

Try broad spectrum CBD products as they do not contain THC. Broad-spectrum CBD can provide some relief for your anxiety, depression, sleep aids, PTSD, and minor pain ailments. It doesn’t offer the highs you want like Delta-8 THC, but you can be sure that it won’t interfere with your drug testing as it won’t cause your body to keep the THC metabolites in your system.

What We Learned About Delta-8 THC and Drug Testing

There is no foolproof way to pass a drug test once the THC metabolites are in your system. Unfortunately, many employers do not yet understand the healing properties of Delta-8 THC and will not agree with your explanation. You can try changing your diet and lifestyle to flush out the THC metabolites, but this may not be enough. If you’re really concerned about not passing your drug test, Delta-8 THC may not be for you. At least not yet! Many states have legalized both the legal and recreational use of THC, whether for tax reasons or for honest reasons that THC can help. Until more information on Delta-8 THC is available, it may be best to stick to broad-spectrum CBD products and not use THC-containing products (full-spectrum, Delta-8 THC, or marijuana).
