In March Hashish might cease showing within the record of Harmful Medicine

Cannabis could stop appearing in the list of Dangerous Drugs thanks to the request made by the World Health Organization (WHO), who assured that it could be a historic decision.

Although the final decision would be made in the coming weeks, between March 18 to 22, in Austria at the session of the Commission on Narcotic Drugs. Tedros Adhanom, Director General of the WHO, who sent a letter to the UN Secretary General, António Guterres, recommended to the governments that cannabis and its oil be eliminated from list IV of the Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs, considering that the Plant has therapeutic properties.

Why Cannabis would be removed from the list of Dangerous Drugs?

For the WHO that list contains substances that have no therapeutic use and are dangerous, case that no longer applies to this flower that in 1961 entered the list.

In the classification list IV is the strictest, that is to say that currently cannabis has the same treatment as heroin, which limits the work of experts who want to investigate the medicinal effects of the flower.

After several analyzes by the WHO drug experts (Ecdd for its acronym in English) who endorsed the therapeutic potential of cannabis to treat pain and other diseases such as epilepsy, multiple sclerosis, the Organization made the request.

The Ecdd also suggests that products made with cannabidiol (CBD), composed of cannabis, that do not have more than 0.2% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), the main psychoactive ingredient of cannabis, be eliminated from all international drug control conventions.

Another recommendation is that THC be designated as a drug in list I in order to facilitate its classification, given that it is currently listed in list IV of the Convention on psychotropic substances of 1971.

The WHO request seeks that this plant and its derivatives enter a less restrictive level.
