What occurred to Obama Runtz?

Obama Runtz, what is it and where does it come from?

While Atlanta isn’t exactly known for creating exotic cannabis strains, it managed to spawn one of the hottest new strain names this year thanks to a viral video. In 2020, Obama Runtz became a national phenomenon, but to find out where it all started you have to dive deep into the World Wide Web.

The Leafly Strain of 2020 is – Runtz!

Obama Runtz is not botanically related to the real Runtz strain (a fruity hybrid of Zkittlez and Gelato), nor is this mysterious new breed related to Obama Kush (an indica-dominant hybrid). Thanks to this viral video, Twitter and Google will search for the term in May 2020:

The origins of Obama Runtz

The viral video shows an unidentified young man at the Magnolia Park Apartments in Atlanta warning his social media followers about a local hustler. The man repped rapper Lil ‘Baby, pushing a brand of exotic weed he’d never heard of.

“A n * gga walking through Magnolia and talking about having Obama Runtz,” the young man said into his selfie lens. “I have never heard of an Obama Runtz in my life. I didn’t even know Obama tolerated such a thing. He had a fat 4PF [Lil’ Baby’s brand] Chain. I don’t even know if he’s baby’s big homie or what to be honest. “

Understandably, social media couldn’t get enough of the video. Whether it was a true story or just for a laugh, the name became an instant hit.

Newsweek tried in a funny way to put the term in context for political followers who hadn’t understood why it was trending under politics on Twitter, but the only answer was that culture had taken it over and carried it out.

Obama Runtz takes to the streets

Later that year, several rappers included Obama Runtz in their songs, including Atlanta MC’s Money Man and TEC rapping about “Blowin on Obama Runtz in Conference.” Trapboy Freddy said, “I should have a plug on the Obama Runtz, but this n * gga was a stunt.” And Runtz crew member Yung LB even released his own spin on the sensation with a song called “Obomba Runtz”.

From t-shirts to smoking accessories, the legend of Obama Runtz has spread like wildfire on the streets and on Youtube.

A realistic growth plan wouldn’t allow even the fastest farmer to cultivate and distribute a strain already inspired by our young friend’s video from May 2020, but that doesn’t seem to matter.

Despite all the evidence, some naughty smoke shops started selling empty Obama Runtz bags, allowing marketing savvy locals to mark random products as Obama Runtz and price them as high as they wanted.

A burden for dreamers and schemers

When you paid $ 100 for an eighth of the legendary Obama Runtz, all you need to comfort yourself is that you were part of the weed story and save the buyer’s story for your grandchildren.

My own suspicion is that the strain people are calling Obama Runtz is a mix of Afghani and OG Kush. But until Lil ‘Baby or his big homie confirms, it’s hard to take offers of the strain seriously.

Looking ahead, any grower who can successfully (and legally) brand and scale an Obama Runtz product with national consistency will make a pretty penny.

All we have to do is insist that they find our young friend and get him a promotional deal fat enough to buy his own 4PF chain.
